Brokeback Mountain Soundtrack

"Tell you what, we coulda had a good life together! Fuckin' real good life! Had us a place of our own. But you didn't want it, Ennis! So what we got now is Brokeback Mountain!"
- Jack Twist to Ennis Del Mar.

I am not a great fan of country songs. (but I do think they fitted perfectly in the movie.. so no grudge against them). So I will talk about the background scores.

1. Opening

3. Brokeback Mountain 1

6. Snow

9. Brokeback Mountain 2

12. Riding Horses

15. Brokeback Mountain 3

17. The Wings

Ofcourse everyone know that they are amazing. They have got a unique feeling, a certain kind of nostalgic emotion to them. They have a major role in the movie, these tracks are the hidden actors. They were able to transport our mind into a different world.. far far away from all this domain of hatred, crime, violence, selfishness, and we are carried to the world where there was only love,.. love between two men which others considered as "forbidden".

These tracks represent the vulnerability of their mind. Though these men seemed to be rough and tough on the outside, inside they too had fears..they too had the sentiment to love and to be loved. But more precisely, I think they sensualize Jack's mind. Each soundtrack starts with a hope, a hope that what ever unpleasant events are happening now, they will be soon forever ceased, and there will be a time full of happiness and joy and love. This hope gets strengthened as the track advances, feeling more positive and confident, at the same time begging for more,.. more hope of wanting to be loved, more hope of wanting these unpalatable situations to be faded as soon as possible, because at the end of all these, there is that ultimate happiness.

Jack was also havin the same emotions. He wanted some how everything to get solved with Ennis. He hoped and dreamt of a day when Ennis would finally defeat all his fears and accept Jack with both arms with out any dubiety. But.. like all the tracks end, his dreams were not fulfilled. Each song ends with a certain guilt in them pleading us to have mercy for giving all those false hopes... that it never wanted to end in that way, reflecting Ennis's thoughts.

Hats Off to Gustavo Santaolalla for churning out such a masterpiece.
